FIRE at PineCamp {December 27, 2009}
The day after Christmas, Mom and Dave came home to a smoke-filled house after having just left 2 hours beforehand. The culprit was a candle warmer on a shelf, which burned off the wall and through the floor. I have never seen what smoke damage can do to a house, but wow. When you look at the wall, the fire doesn't look TOO bad, so I was surprised to hear the list of things damaged. The bedroom and bathroom will be gutted, ALL appliances are gone, all fabrics, and the list keeps going. The most amazing thing to me is the kitchen. That far away, and the countertops cannot even be used. All the cabinets will be replaced, so an entire new kitchen as well. They are staying in a townhouse for now, and it will probably be June before they are back in the house. I told Mom, once you're past the initial shock of having to fix everything, this is pretty awesome! She has wonderful insurance, and everything will be replaced, so now she can finally repaint, new cabinets, new TV, well you get it. The only thing is, this is happening to someone who hates shopping more than anyone I know. So I plan on helping as much as possible : ) I've taken care of her wardrobe so far!
